Bachelor of Science (Research) Program 2022-23 for International Students:

The UG (Bachelor of Science (Research)) Program admissions for international students has been approved by academic senate of IISc in January 2019. The details of the UG program can be found here. Frequently asked question about UG program can be accessed here. The candidates might be eligible for scholarship as per the institute norms and fees will be similar to general candidates (details about fees can be found here).

Eligibility: 

  1. All International Candidates who are foreign Nationals holding a foreign passport are eligible to apply.
  2. Candidates who hold non-Indian passports, but are Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Cardholders, will be treated as foreign nationals for IISc admissions under the following two categories: 
    • Category-1: OCI students who have obtained their degree/domiciled in India. The definition of domiciled in India is pertaining to qualifying degree (for UG admissions, it is 10+2 or equivalent) obtained from India. These Category-1 students will apply through regular admission portal.
    • Category-2:OCI students with a foreign degree/domiciled in foreign location. The students should have qualifying degrees (for UG admissions, it is 10+2 or equivalent) obtained from foreign location. They will apply through the current international student admission portal.
    • Candidates, who have completed their II PUC / 12th Standard (or equivalent) between 2017 to 2022 and those who are expecting to complete their II PUC / 12th Standard (or equivalent) in 2023 are eligible to apply. The candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as main subjects during their II PUC / 12th (or equivalent) Standard. Candidates, who have studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science, etc., in addition to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are also eligible to apply. The candidates must have secured a first class or 60% or equivalent grade in the II PUC / 12th (or equivalent) Standard examination.

Selection:

Shortlisting of candidates that qualified(s) in one of the following national examinations:

OCI (Category 1) students desirous of applying to the Bachelor of Science (Research) Programme must take at least one of the below national examinations:

1. Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) KVPY-2021, Stream-SA Candidates selected through Empowerment Initiative (SC/ST/PwD categories) in KVPY-2021, Stream-SA

2. JEE Main -2023

3. JEE Advance-2023

4. NEET-UG- 2023

5. IISER Aptitude test 2023

Note: Candidate must be qualified in any one of the exams mentioned above, and the exam result must be valid as on 01 August 2023.

For International and OCI (Category 2) students:

  1. SAT: Appeared in 2019/2020/2021/ 2022 or Appearing in 2023
  2. ACT: Appeared in 2019/2020/2021/2022 or Appearing in 2023

Procedure for Applying:

  1. Application Form (available only online): The online application may be prepared and submitted by accessing the link below: https://admissions.iisc.ac.in/international/ from (Dates will be announced soon). There is no application fees.
  2. You are required to have the following scanned/digital copies for completing the application form
    • Scanned copy of Passport size Photograph (size less than 2 MB in an image format)
    • Clear Scanned copy of photograph page of passport with details like passport number and nationality clearly spelled out (PDF or image), size less than 10 MB.
  3. You will also require the details of entrance exam (as given in above section) either appeared or appearing.

FAQ’s: UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

1. What are the eligibility requirements for admission into the Bachelor of Science’ Program at IISc?

2. Which subject groups are mandatory at the II PUC/12th STD level for admission to the UG program at IISc?

The Bachelor of Science (Research) Programme is open to students of PUC/12th standard whose main subjects include Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (all three). Students who have studied Biology, Economics, Electronics, Computer Science, Statistics, etc., should also have taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

3. What are the different modes of applying to the programme?

Candidates must apply on-line. Online application may be prepared and submitted by accessing IISc-OIR website: http://oir.iisc.ac.in . Please refer to the Instruction manual for Application at this document.

4. Is SAT/ACT a qualifying exam for the entrance into undergraduate program for International students.

Yes, apart from the merit lists of the national level entrance exams such as KVPY, IIT-JEE (Main and Advanced) and NEET, International students looking forward to apply for the Bachelor of Science (Research) Program can take SAT/ACT exam.

5. What is the cut-off score for SAT/ACT to get the admissions in UG Program at IISc?

There is no set cut offs. The cut off scores for various qualifying exam, at IISc varies every year depending upon various factors like availability of seats, reserve categories, number of candidates applied, etc. 

The cut off lists are made available online (generally released after all qualifying exams declare their result) on IISc website.

6. What are the types of SAT exam one has to take up to qualify for the UG admissions?

Both SAT and SAT Subject Test scores are required for application; the essay part of SAT is not required.

7. Is there an application fee for applying?

There is no application fee for International Students.

8. Is there an NRI quota?

No, there is no NRI quota for admissions at IISc. For OCI card holder, kindly refer to the eligibility section.

9. Are OCI candidates considered as International students?

As per the judgment dated 03.02.2023 passed in Writ Petition (Civil) 891 of 2021 by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the OCI/PIO candidates shall be considered as Indian nationals.

11. I do not qualify for the International category, how do I contact the regular IISc admission cell?

12. I am an OCI Category 1 student currently domiciled in India. Am I eligible for Undergraduate Program through SAT/ACT?

Ans: OCI (Category 1) students desirous of applying to the UG Programme must take at least one of the (JEE Main/JEE Advanced/NEET). SAT & ACT are the Mode of Entry exams for international and OCI (Category 2) students.

13. Is there any new exam IISC is planning as a replacement of KVPY?

Ans: KVPY Aptitude test will not be conducted from the year 2022 onwards and currently, we do not have any information on the replacement of KVPY exam.

14. As SAT subject examinations have been permanently discontinued from the College Board, which score will be valid to take admission?

Ans: In this case of SAT exam, the general exam scores will be considered.

15. Do you accept admission in BSc (Research) from ICCR Scholarship portal?

Ans: For now, we do not have UG program admissions through ICCR. It may be available in future years, which we will update here.

16. What is the number of seats available for BSc. Research Program for OCI/International Students?

Ans: Total no. of seats for international students (including OCI 1 and 2) in B.Sc Research program is 5 as of now.
